ASPLUND, K.K. is a non-bank lender in Kita-ku, Osaka. We provide working capital, receivables and equipment financing to the small and mid-sized businesses of the Kansai region — the workshops, wholesalers and family firms that a bank's scoring model tends to read as too small to bother with.
Who we are
ASPLUND, K.K. is a non-bank finance company based in Kita-ku, Osaka. We are not a bank: we take no deposits and hold no customer accounts. We lend to companies — working capital, receivables finance and equipment funding for small and mid-sized enterprises across Osaka and the wider Kansai region.
Our address is a short walk from Tenjimbashisuji, the longest covered shopping street in Japan at roughly 2.6 kilometres. It is lined end to end with exactly the sort of business we exist for — family shops, small wholesalers, third-generation workshops. Many of them have traded through decades that broke far larger companies.
Osaka has been a merchants' city for four hundred years, and its small manufacturers remain among the densest concentration of industrial capability anywhere in the country. These businesses are not marginal. They are simply small — which is a different thing, though credit models rarely distinguish between the two.
Small is not the same as weak. Most lending models cannot tell the difference; a person usually can.

Financing
Different shortfalls call for different instruments. What fits depends on what the money is for and what will repay it.
Funding for stock, payroll and the ordinary running of a business through a period when outgoings arrive before receipts do.
Advancing against invoices already issued to reliable customers. Where the only real problem is payment terms, this addresses it directly.
Machinery, tooling and vehicles — assets that expand what a workshop can take on, financed rather than paid for out of reserves.
Short-term funding while a longer facility, a property transaction or an expected payment completes — with a defined exit at the outset.
For businesses that earn across a few months and spend across twelve, structured around the actual season rather than an even schedule.
Secured facilities where commercial property supports the borrowing — generally the lowest-cost option we can offer, and the slowest to arrange.
Guarantees
In Japan, business lending has long carried a shadow: the personal guarantee given by the owner. A company borrows, and its founder stands behind the debt with the family home and personal savings. It is one reason many capable owners avoid financing altogether, and one reason some avoid succession — few children want to inherit that.
National guidelines have pushed lenders to reduce reliance on personal guarantees, and the direction of travel is clear. But the practice has not disappeared, and a borrower deserves a plain answer about it rather than a clause discovered later.
Whether a guarantee is required should be an early question with any lender

A guarantee is a personal legal commitment. Treat it as one

Client feedback
A large order arrived that we could not fund from reserves, and our bank's timetable would have lost it. What I appreciated was being shown the total repayment figure in the first meeting rather than a monthly number that hides the rest.
They told us to go back to our main bank first, and explained why their own money would cost us more. We did, and the bank agreed. A year later, when we needed something faster than a bank could manage, we knew exactly who to call.
The guarantee question was answered directly at the first meeting instead of appearing in the documents at the end. After years of not asking because I was afraid of the answer, being told plainly was worth a great deal.
